It's the nerves, and a desire to hold the needles/hook securely. I was a horribly tight knitter at first -- could hardly get my needle into the stitch, they were so tight! You will loosen up as you relax and feel more secure in crocheting. It's very pretty!M.K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/09205619221345704689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7276266847729349745.post-57920398203275947102015-09-07T17:27:04.021+01:002015-09-07T17:27:04.021+01:00Keep trying! I persevered and am now as comfortable with crochet as with knitting.Unahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03398380737025120541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7276266847729349745.post-29116746039841777372015-09-07T17:25:18.564+01:002015-09-07T17:25:18.564+01:00Thanks, I'll definitely try that next time. Thanks, I'll definitely try that next time.Unahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03398380737025120541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7276266847729349745.post-24474387643622116262015-09-06T23:37:59.466+01:002015-09-06T23:37:59.466+01:00Congratulations on learning a new skill! Here's a little tip - one way to loosen your crochet is to draw up a taller base loop than you normally do. (By "base loop" I mean the first loop you draw up after inserting your hook into the stitch below.) This gives a more willowy effect to the entire stitch.Mrs. Micawberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08680436275934263596noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7276266847729349745.post-45641871174055422192015-09-06T23:28:44.178+01:002015-09-06T23:28:44.178+01:00Una-- your scarf is beautiful-- I think you have s...Una-- your scarf is beautiful-- I think you have successfully mastered that awesome stitch! I struggled with the ripple pattern at first - I made my first chain row too tight and everything puckered :-(<br />However, I found that if I used a larger hook and worked that initial chain VERY loosely it allowed enough 'give' to accommodate the increases and decreases of the following rows.<br /><br />Well done, Una, for tackling something new and expanding your crochet repertoire!
