Baby scrappy scarf.....
In July I blogged about making a ball of wool from remnants. This week I found time to knit it into a little baby scarf. It measures 35" by 4.5" and is for the Keep a Child Warm project run by Operation Orphan. This is an organisation that distributes warm clothing to children in many countries. I read somewhere that they needed scarves to fit the toddlers and babies, so this will be perfect.
For this scarf I used a very long circular knitting needle and cast on 180 stitches. I then just knitted in garter stitch rows until I ran out of wool. I now officially have no more scraps of white or pastel dk yarn. Woo hoo!
OOh thats so pretty - love all the colours Una - and it will keep a little person really warm and snug! Fab!

I love this, the colors are so pretty together.
ReplyDeleteit's lovely Una, I have one of these on the needles too, I will get it finished one day. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely scarf, and so frugal to use up all your little ends - what patience to make a ball of wool from these scraps, I keep all my ends so must try to do what you did and make a ball from them. Keep knitting, and keep blogging - it's such fun to read, x
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea to use up bits.I'll give it a go.A good thing to do while watching the TV.
ReplyDeleteMaking the ball of wool was one of those mindless activities that can be done any time. I really enjoyed seeing it take shape.
DeleteWhat a great idea! Love the colors - you'd think it was planned.
ReplyDeleteLovely scarf someone will really enjoy wearing it. Forgive a daft question but when you join the yarns together to make a ball, how do you avoid knots? or do you leave a long tails so they are weaved in and not worry about knots? Just wondered as I have never made a ball of yarn from left over yarn before.
ReplyDeleteHello Paula. I used the "Russian join" method of splicing the two yarns together. It doesn't make a knot though the yarn is a bit thicker at the join. If you click on the first red link above (making a ball of wool from remnants) it leads to a online tutorial
DeleteSuch happy stripes - someone will really enjoy their new scarf.
ReplyDeleteI like the Russian join too. :)
I can't believe those are just a bunch of scraps. The colors are all so beautiful together. A child will cherish this.
