What would you do.....?
I fell in love with this pattern so much that I actually bought the book. The recommended yarn is Rowan Wool Cotton which costs an arm and a leg. But it receives such good reviews that I treated myself to some in French Navy. I love it....it is my new best friend! It is a pleasure to knit with and I am actually limiting myself to a few rows per day as I am enjoying it so much. I also don't need this top until next spring and I have other things on the go. But they are just secondary reasons.
Now, this is where I need your advice. The pattern has a very eye-catching cable panel up the front of the top. It also has it up the back. I like it on the back. It would be very plain otherwise and it actually gives a very slimming impression! The question I have for all you experts is:
if you saw someone wearing this with the cable panel on the back, would you think she had her top on back to front?
I really would be interested to hear what you would do. Back pattern or no back pattern? I have nearly reached the point where I need to make the decision.......help!! All comments gratefully received.
I would just have it on the front but just because I wouldn't want to be bothered doing it on the back as well. I don't think anyone would think it was back to front because the pattern is on the front too, so if you like it and would enjoy doing it then I say go for it put
ReplyDeletethe pattern on the back and on the front, it is very lovely, let us know what you decide. :)
Yes, I knit mainly for enjoyment. The Ravelry photos occasionally show the pattern on the back and it looks stunning. I will probably do that.
DeleteNo I think I would think it wonderful to see an interest point on the back and be so interested to see if there was one on the front as well I would stalk you for a bit!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood luck. I am useless at knitting big things and it would be a few rowers a day ...... Forever
That's a novel reason for stalking someone....!!
DeleteThe cable is beautiful. If I were walking behind it, I would merely think "How neat." When I got close enough, I'd add "How beautiful."
ReplyDeleteI've actually almost trod on heels to get a good look at a cable or any other number of details, simultaneously digging for paper and pen to make a sketch and notes. Some of my best sweater details were stolen on the street.
Thank you for your helpful comment. I think I am being persuaded to put the pattern on the back as well.
DeleteI think people judge whether a jumper is the right way round by the neckline! It's 'normal' to have patterns on front, back or both. But stuff like reverse v-necks always require a double-take. I think it'll look pretty, either way. And don't forget the photos! ;) x
ReplyDeleteThe front is a v-neck and the back is just round. It should be obvious after the first confused look...!!
DeleteYou said you are really enjoying working with the yarn, so I say put in the back cable. It will take longer to knit, giving you more time to hold that yarn in your fingers. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm currently finishing off a blanket that was just miles of garter stitch. So having 2 cable panels to knit will be a welcome change.
DeleteI say do the panel back & front.
ReplyDeleteIt will be a lot of work but it will certainly be worth it!
It's going to be lovely ~ and you deserve it !!
Thanks, Marianna. Most people think I should knit the panel on the back. I have already started, so there is no going back now. It is an interesting pattern and I don't really mind how long it takes. I will post photos when it is finished.
