At the beginning of the summer, I set myself a target to use up all my 4 ply yarn. In my last post, I described how I used up the last of my white and cream. I then set my attention to using up my darker shades. Once again, I combined yarns and managed to knit 3 toddler size hats. I followed the Be Loving pattern. This is written for Aran yarn; but 4 ply doubled works just as well.
I actually had lots of little nuggets in various greens, blues, beiges and browns and was quite pleased at how they worked together. Admittedly, they are rather dark for toddlers' hats. But they will be going off to Operation Orphan for distribution in countries where warmth and sturdiness are the most important attributes in children's clothes.
I am now looking at a bag of 4 ply yarn that contains only blues and pinks. I think my job is done. I am quite happy to save this for future family babies. In fact, there is already a great niece or nephew on the way. I must put on my thinking hat....

ReplyDeleteOh Una, isn't it a big win if you can dwindle down that pile of scrap yarn?! I have been trying to do that and I get to a point where I think yay, and then someone gives me another bag of left over yarn. lol One can't refuse a donation of yarn though can they! lol

Wow, what a great achievement. If you are in need you will not care the colour of your hat, but I think that anyone would love these in any case, especially boys, as they like darker colours don't they. xx
ReplyDeleteThe hats are lovely and I'm sure will be worn a lot. They'll be very warm. I think I have quite a bit of white 3-ply in my stash though probably not enough for a blanket. So until I think of something to make it will remain there.
ReplyDeleteYou could double up the 3 ply. It will be close to dk even though the maths isn't quite right.

ReplyDeleteThat must be some amazing "thinking cap" that you put on, because you come up with amazing ideas. You are so productive! I'm amazed at all the things you make for others. Those caps are beautiful. I think they'll be perfect for little boys. Just in time for cold weather!
