My blog received a mention in a well-known women's magazine this week and I can already see from my visitor statistics that many more people than usual have looked at my blog. So, welcome to one and all and thank you for sharing my fifteen minutes of fame.
I am still bemused as to why my blog was chosen for a mention. Hopefully, you will take the time to visit the many other excellent crafting blogs listed in my right hand sidebar. The common theme is knitting and crochet. Apart from that, they are as different as the individuals who write them.
My own personal style is to keep things simple. I originally started blogging as a way to record my creations. Here are just a few:

hat and scarf set:
There are hundreds more. You can see them in my photostream in the left hand sidebar. Some have gone to family. But most have gone to various charities that you can see listed at the top of my home page.
Gradually, my blog evolved as it gathered regular readers. I know that from the visitor statistics (an amazing 337,107 page views so far) and from the frequent comments.
My settings mean that I receive notifications and see all comments before they are published. In that way, I can't miss anything. I read every one, even if I can't always think of a witty reply. Please keep them coming!
I would especially love comments from anyone who knows me from outside the blogging world. You can either leave a comment on this blog post or contact me by email via my profile in the left hand sidebar. I thought I didn't know anybody who read this woman's magazine. Well, somebody proved me wrong and contacted me on the day of publication!
The photo in the magazine was taken at the end of a very hot day. I'm wearing a jumper because I didn't know when the article was due for publication and a t-shirt would look a bit odd in winter. Consequently, I look about a stone heavier than I really am. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I won't repeat the photo here. If you read the magazine, you've seen it. If not, you aren't missing anything!
Well that's certainly exciting. I don't get any magazines so I had no clue. They must have been impressed with all the charity work you do.

ReplyDeleteThe magazine article mentioned that I had received donations of yarn from the USA. That was YOU! I gave the author lots of information to choose from and she thought it was worth including.

ReplyDeleteSo they tell me! I find it hard to convince people that I am just doing it all for fun. The charities are just the lucky recipients.
DeleteYou are so funny :) I do think it's interesting that they have to "shoot" those magazine articles months ahead of time, and try to create the correct season! I adore your hedgehog up there! What a good use for that fuzzy yarn. And I remember those sweet baby cardigans - what a nice pattern! Congrats on your flash of fame!!
ReplyDeleteYears ago, I was in a tv advert for about one nano-second. It was filmed in tropical temperatures but was going out in December. So we had to wear woolly jumpers. Phew!

DeleteI too saw the article about you in the magazine!! I am a quilter and knitter and enjoy looking at many different blogs and have made some wonderful friends thru blogging. I have even been lucky enough to meet two of them the last time we came to the UK. You have made many beautiful things, I especially like the hedgehog.

DeleteI have also just read your article in the magazine which prompted me to have a look at your blog! I am a knitter primarily with a bit of crochet on the side, although my skills in crochet are limited to granny squares and blankets! Amigurami defeats me! I am currently knitting dolls for the local school using different skin tones!

We have the same type of crochet skills, though I avoid squares because of the sewing up. I prefer lap blankets or scarves. You will have to start a blog to share your projects.

DeleteI saw your article in the magazine, I have knitted for years, just learning to crochet, used to cross stitch but my eyesight isn't up to it now..look forward to reading your blog, it looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI'm also a knitter who learned to crochet. It was ages before I could even hold a crochet hook correctly. I'm glad I kept at it, though I think I still knit more than crochet. Why not start a blog to share your work. It's good fun and can take as much or as little time as you like.

I puzzled for a little and then it clicked - she said the article was lovely and thoroughly enjoyable - sadly she finds it hard to knit now due to arthritis (im hoping it will be a very long time before mine stops me completely) - so good to know you have had recognition for the lovely work you do xx
