Hello and thanks for visiting my blog. I have been knitting on and off for 50 years and I recently learned to crochet. I love looking for wool bargains and making them into something useful. I mainly knit for charity. I occasionally knit for myself and family members if I find a really good pattern or if they ask nicely!!

Free patterns

I'm a frugal  crafter and never pay for patterns.  Libraries are great places to look for books about knitting, crochet, sewing etc.  The Internet is also a rich source for free patterns.  The following is a list of links that I have used:

  3. I have just read the article about you in Woman's Weekly so I had to check out your blog. I am a 64 year old woman from Donegal, Ireland and have been knitting all my life. I was taught as a small child by my great aunt Annie, a retired schoolteacher, who lived with my family. The first jumper I remember knitting was for my new cousin Paul when I was about ten. I still have the simple pattern from Woman magazine. I also remember knitting a garish yellow and blue cardigan for my youngest brother when he was a baby. I made many knits for myself as a teenager and when I married I kept my three children in sweaters and cardigans which they didn't always appreciate. Later I began knitting Aran jumpers for a company that supplied the wool and patterns. Nowadays I enjoy knitting fir my grandchildren and I also knit baby jumpers for our local branch of Country Markets Ltd. I am never without something on my needles. Like you I rarely buy patterns, I have a large collection of favourites from magazines and I also use many of the sites you mentioned. I have enjoyed reading your blog and seeing some of your work. Thank you. Audrey S

    1. Hello Audrey. Thanks for your lovely, long reply. My family are from Galway and Mayo. I have been there often, but never as far north as Donegal. One of my colleagues used to go there a lot and told me how beautiful it is. It was really interesting hearing all about your knitting. Why not start a blog to show it off? You will have lots of readers very soon.
