Hello and thanks for visiting my blog. I have been knitting on and off for 50 years and I recently learned to crochet. I love looking for wool bargains and making them into something useful. I mainly knit for charity. I occasionally knit for myself and family members if I find a really good pattern or if they ask nicely!!

My new blog poster....

In my last post, I said I might make a poster of my wildly witty and highly original (I hope) "Keep Calm" quotation.  The weather outside (is it ever inside?) is only fit for ducks.  So I spent an hour or two (yes, really) designing this poster.

I found lots of websites that offer free customisable templates of the well-known "Keep Calm" posters. By trial and error, I eventually found one that didn't put their logo on the poster and try to sell me keyrings etc. I recommend Bannersnack to anyone with a banner-shaped gap in their lives.

I then decided to add my own watermark and found another free site called PICMARKR which I can recommend.

The next step could be to turn this into a button for my blog sidebar.  I mean the type of button that other bloggers could add to their sidebar that would lead back to my blog.  What's the general opinion?  Would there be any point?  I've had a look at all the ways to do this and it seems to be very complicated. Any suggestions for the easiest way would be gratefully received!

  1. Love your poster. I never saw much point in buttons. I use the back arrow key. I suppose one must remember to go back and not carry on. Haha.
I am emulating you in design, if not in spirit, and have three hats ready to take to my knitting group's hat project.
Then, after years of searching, I found a pullover with short row shaping in the front. I had a pattern that I lost, horror of horrors. I have some gifted cranberry yarn, and now that the grey is gone in hats, it's on to the sweater.

  4. Very cute! I used the inlinkz website that I use for the five on Friday link to make my blog badge for that. It is easy and free, so if you want to, have a go!

  5. I love the poster, the yarn in the background garter stitch is so pretty. I have watermarked pictures in the past, using photoshop; there is an ancient version on my Mac which does all I need and plenty more I don't know about! While you're in the mood for experimenting, I would go for the blog badge; I'd certainly be happy to add it to my blog.

    1. The photo is a blanket that I knitted with Baby Paintbox. I love the colours in it. I might make the blog badge just to learn more about computers. I'll wait for another rainy day, which probably won't be a long wait.

    2. I found a whole blog post had been copied onto someone else's blog a few years ago, complete with my photos. It was a bit of a shock. That's why I thought I should watermark this one. But I'm sure it is now easy to remove them these days, if someone really wanted to.

  7. I love your “Keep Calm” poster! I know nothing about buttons. Now I want to find out about them. I’ve been thinking about redesigning my blog. I think it needs a facelift.

  9. I have no clue about how to put it as a button on other people's blogs to link back to yours. Too fancy for me!! But I know that I LOVE that banner! What a clever idea, and y'know, it's so true. Is there any more panicky moment than when a knitter realizes she dropped a stitch five rows before? And until you pick up that stitch and make it secure, you are really nervous, like the whole thing will come apart :) Great job, Una!!!

    1. Hello, Jo. That's very generous. I sent a reply on Ravelry as your Blogger profile is not public and I can't see your email address.
