Hello and thanks for visiting my blog. I have been knitting on and off for 50 years and I recently learned to crochet. I love looking for wool bargains and making them into something useful. I mainly knit for charity. I occasionally knit for myself and family members if I find a really good pattern or if they ask nicely!!

On their way.....

I've been really busy relearning computer skills.  About a week ago my ancient laptop gave up the ghost.  It had already been in for repair a few months ago and I decided to stop throwing money at it.  So I went out and bought a new one.  Things have moved on a lot in cyberland and I think I have just about got my head around Windows 8.1, Microsoft SkyDrive etc etc.  It hasn't been easy!!!!!  This was partly because my computer skills are a bit rusty and also because there are definite problems with the latest software and operating systems.  Internet forums are full of people having the same difficulties I had.  It has been a steep learning curve.

I resented the amount of knitting time I had to devote to setting up my new laptop.  But I'm up and running again.  Just being able to edit a photo and add it to my blog has been a major achievement.  Woo hoo!

Today I posted off a parcel of sewn, knitted and crocheted items which will be divided between Greenfields Africa and Operation Orphan.  There are 8 hats, 2 scarves, 1 cardigan and 5 drawstring bags which will eventually be filled with goodies for new mothers and their babies in Africa.

I have various knitting projects on the go.  They had to bow out gracefully while I got up to speed on my laptop,  But, fingers crossed, it's all systems go  and I'm firing on all cylinders again.  Hopefully, my new laptop will do the same!

  1. It's nice to see you posting again! I was worried by the long silence. Sorry to hear you've had computer problems. My husband got a new laptop right before we moved last summer and he has had a very hard time with the new operating system. I use a Macbook, so have avoided any trouble. It's a lovely parcel you have sent off to Africa!

    1. Considering it is a difficult system to learn and computers are so expensive, I think there should have been a manual included. I'm having to Google everything. I'm going to buy a simple book that explains it all, but I really shouldn't have to.

  2. Thank you for the links; I'm working on a box for the Syrian address.

    1. A great cause. The tv news reports from Syria are very upsetting. They make me count my blessings.

  3. I am so glad to see you back Una . I have heard from many the problems they have had with that system. So much to learn.
I love your gifts. They will make such a difference .

    1. This is a case when "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies. I'm slowly getting used to it now.

  4. Una well done on both counts - I struggle with the computer and if anything goes wrong I am sunk but we need them so badly, especially when blogging so we have to stick with it. Your knitting is so lovely Una and I am sure that both projects will be over the moon with their gifts. Big hugs to you Una

  5. How did we live without computers years ago! I am going to bet it was with a lot less frustration! :-)

My in-house computer expert (my husband) and I finally gave up for good with Microsoft. We are now Apple people - talk about an easy transition! Maybe next time you might look at that option. They do cost more, but my sanity is worth at least that much! LOL

Now that you are past the hard part on your new computer - enjoy it. I don't know if I could ever be without a computer now!

    Enjoy.

    1. My daughter uses an Apple and loves it. I must take a sneaky look at it. My hubby talks to a lot of computer people at fairs and always buys Windows computers. I'm not sure why. I will definitely do more research next time. Blow the expense, as you say sanity is worth more.

  6. I've been using Windows 8 for a year now (my Christmas present), and actually like it (once I got the hang of things). I go onto our old computer and feel like I'm walking through mud.

Your charity knitting looks great! I've been thinking of making up more hats than blanket squares for LILY this year. The whole situation with the refugees is just heartbreaking. I'm like you and feel so blessed in my warm home.

    1. That is encouraging news about the computer. I'm definitely getting used to it and don't mind the "tiles" that a lot of people dislike. I've put my old computer away. It is still just about useable, but I'm only going to use it in an emergency.

  8. Welcome back Una and a two marvellous package's on their way to Africa where I am sure they will be both needed and welcome.
Well done on sticking with the new operating system, I have had a look at it (my father has windows 8.1) and it certainly looks a bit of challenge to get used to.
Now you can back to what you love to do the most x
