Hello and thanks for visiting my blog. I have been knitting on and off for 50 years and I recently learned to crochet. I love looking for wool bargains and making them into something useful. I mainly knit for charity. I occasionally knit for myself and family members if I find a really good pattern or if they ask nicely!!

A real red head....

Here's my latest knitted hat.  I used lovely red yarn that I bought cheaply in a summer bootfair.  I love the coloured speckles in it.  I made this slightly bigger than the last 3 hats because heads come in all shapes and sizes.

This hat was inspired by the Awesome Hat pattern.  But I swapped to stocking stitch after the ribbed brim as I think it shows off the yarn better.

My obsession with neat hat crowns continues.  So here is the crown:

I love it!

This has to be a short blog post.  The 3 girls for whom I knitted the little fingerless gloves are arriving tomorrow.  I will finally find out if they fit them!

  1. There's something so satisfying about all those decreases coming together in a lovely swirl. :)

What a nice yarn - stocking stitch was definitely the right choice!

  2. Lovely hat in a nice cheery colour I love red, I'm sure that you will get a very favourable reaction from your nieces, they will love them have a great weekend xx

  3. You have quite a good selection of hats now! xx

  4. Gorgeous color for the hat Una.

  5. Your creation is lovely. The top swirl "tops" it off in a beautiful manner. Last week I put a red scarf in my shop/blog which would match. Let us see the 3 little ones with their finger-less gloves. I love making them. Blessings, Jan

    1. Well, the gloves fitted and they were happy with them. But our weather is so mild here at the moment that they didn't wear them when we went out. Plenty of time for gloves weather.

  6. The crown is really pretty -- love that swirl :) Good job -- the speckles in the red are lovely!

  7. The hat has a great pattern on the top - my decreases are not always in the same place so mine are not as neat as that. Jo x
